The Work in Bethany continues

We would like to publicly thank all of our supporters for the many kind letters and donations we received on the news of Alice Sahhar’s passing last month. We have sent copies of your letters to her daughter Samar, who now faces the challenge of keeping the vision alive at both the boys and girls homes in Bethany. We have assured her of our continuing dedicated support of her work.

Frank and Mavis Jenkins write: “We take this opportunity to register our thanks for all that you have done and are still doing via the Trust, recognising that without such help the Homes would probably not survive. Our Father knows their needs and you are, no doubt, a large part of His providence for them”

Maureen Moody writes: “I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Alice, but she has now gone home. What a wonderful woman. We will all miss her. We pray that her dear daughter is given strength to carry on her mother’s work”

Sue & David Rushton write: “we enclose a donation in memory of a most remarkable and inspiring woman, in thanksgiving for her selfless devotion to the needs of “her” boys”

Helen McCall writes: “It was sad to hear of Alice’s death. I only met her once, and it was a short meeting, but it is odd how some people can make such a lasting impact. She and her helpers had so obviously made the orphanage a very loving home, and the boys were clearly healthy and happy. I hope the work there can go on as it did.

The Future

Our immediate priority is to see the completion of the new Lazarus Girls Home in Bethany. This year The McCabe Educational Trust contributed £50,000 to the project with a matching grant of £50,000from McCabe Pilgrimages. Our target is to raise a further £200,000 over the next two years.

Witnessing Reality

An introduction to Accompaniment

McCabe pilgrim and regular Trust supporter Audrey Gray of West Sussex writes:

My first McCabe pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1987, and a further six pilgrimages, inspired and challenged me to get to know the “Living Stones” of The Land. In April this year I accepted a wonderful opportunity to spend four months as an Ecumenical Accompanier living and working in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. What a revelation this was for me, and how different to being a tourist.

A special Thank You to McCabe pilgrims who helped us raise £13,410 during October

- a total of £125,015 so far this year!

With your help, we will continue helping those in need we encounter on our travels.
